If you have never heard of Ackuna (www.ackuna.com), it is a meeting place for translators and developers to come together to help localize the web. Ackuna offers a fun way for linguists to practice and hone their craft while translating smart-phone apps, earning reputation points and badges in the process. While on Ackuna you can also "follow" other users, message them, and promote yourself to potential clients. It's a social network, translation network, and game all rolled into one!
But back to the contest news...
For the months of March and April, Ackuna is hosting a translation contest for its users and giving away some great prizes for the winners.
To participate, you simply have to sign up at www.ackuna.com to register by March 31st. Participants compete by translating a popular app, while earning points for various accomplishments and tasks within the system. At the end of the contest, the top 3 translators with the most points will be determined the winners and will receive a year's license to the MemoQ Translator Pro software (valued at over $770 retail) as well as other great prizes.
The contest is open to everybody, however there are structures in place to ensure only serious participants will get far in the contest. Points are only awarded for the most correct submissions, while points are deducted for inaccurate translations.
